Wardrobe Essentials for Men

Men, in general, approach their wardrobes in a more formulaic way than women. Knowing what to purchase, if it fits well, looks good, and how long it will last are key things to consider when adding items to any man’s wardrobe. Given men tend to be more straightforward with their clothes, it’s critical to own some everyday wardrobe essentials.

1.     Undergarments

·   Fitted underwear that doesn’t show lines

·   Deep V-neck undershirts that match closely to your skin tone

2.     Tops

·       Dress shirts

o   A few varying whites

o   French blue(s)

o   Navy blue

o   Off white/cream

o   Simple striped/patterned

o   Cable knit in white and gray

3.     Bottoms

·       Jeans (white, black, dark wash, and light wash)

·       Chinos (navy, tan - NOT khakis)

·       Dress pants (suit separates - navy, charcoal, brown, light gray)

·       Shorts

o   Solid colors in current trends (shorter inseam, tan, white, black, blue)

4.     Footwear

·       Black Chelsea Boots

·       Brown semi-casual boots

·       Medium brown dress shoes

·       Black formal dress shoes

·       Burgundy dress shoes (optional but recommended)

·       “Shit kickers” sneakers for daily non-fashion/commuting use

·       White leather sneakers

5.     Outerwear

·   Charcoal and/or navy overcoat

·   Tan trench coat

·   Black leather jacket

·   Medium wash denim jacket

6.     Accessories

·   Simple watch (white face, gold or silver bezel)

·   Interchangeable watch straps (black leather, brown leather, and a matching metal to the bezel)

While lifestyles differ, creating a wardrobe that’s built with key, foundational pieces keeps a closet refined and polished, allows for room to grow a closet with bolder pieces, shows where the gaps are, and saves time and money in the long-run.

Stylishly yours,
